When this ANC administration slashed the maintenance infrastructure budget last year by R123 million, it turned its back on the safety of our residents.
Our streets are collapsing, littered with potholes, sinkholes and large-scale erosion, posing massive risk to road users on a daily basis.
The ANC, by choosing not to renew the tender for hot tar, is responsible for forcing our people to use crumbling and dangerous roads. This tender should have been awarded over half a year ago, but instead a directionless and uncaring ANC cuts the budget and sits back while our people run a gauntlet on a daily basis.
Worse still, this tender could be providing thousands of EPWP jobs to people desperately in need of work. With the critical unemployment crisis in NMB, this government needs to be looking for ways to create jobs, not kill them.
The safety of our residents is of the utmost importance. Therefore, the DA will be tabling a motion at the next Infrastructure, Engineering and Electricity Standing Committee to investigate the NMBM Supply Chain Management’s failure to award a new tender for hot tar.
The DA can win Nelson Mandela Bay at this year’s local government election so that the safety and security of our residents can once again be a priority.
