Future Springboks on display in Siya Kolisi at 8 for Grey High School and Pat Lambie at 10 for Michaelhouse High School (MHS) in this video from 2008.
Grey vs MHS at Grey – March 2008. Game won by Grey 19-11 after scores were tied 11-11 with three minutes to play.
Michaelhouse, the Anglican Diocesan College of Natal, founded in 1896 and set amongst the rolling green hills of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in South Africa is a boarding school for senior boys with an international reputation.
In 2008, Lambie became headboy of Michaelhouse and was elected both first team rugby and cricket captain. In 2008, Lambie once again made the KZN Craven week and S.A. Schools sides. Lambie attained more than an 80% win rate with his two years of Michaelhouse’s first team, and never lost in any sport to Hilton who is Michaelhouse’s “rival” school. While Lambie played in the Michaelhouse first rugby team they were ranked in the top ten rugby schools in the country. Lambie was both the KZN cricket and KZN Craven Week captain.
Lambie was called up to represent South Africa during their 2010 tour to Ireland and the United Kingdom. He made his début against Ireland on 6 November 2010, at flyhalf after Morné Steyn was substituted in the second half. He converted a try on his debut. He has also started against the Barbarians team for the Springboks at fullback, but this was not an official international match. Lambie was Michaelhouse school’s first South African rugby player in their 115-year history.
Siyamthanda ‘Siya’ Kolisi – born 16 June 1991 in Zwide, Port Elizabeth – impressed scouts during a youth tournament in Mossel Bay and was offered a scholarship to Grey Junior in Port Elizabeth. He subsequently moved up to Grey High School, where he was a member of the first XV rugby team. He was also a part of the Eastern Province Kings youth set-up between 2007 and 2009, playing in the Under-16 Grant Khomo week and the Under-18 Craven Week before shifting west to join Western Province.
Kolisi was a member of the South Africa under 20 side that competed in both the 2010 and 2011 IRB Junior World Championships.
He made his Springbok debut on 15 June 2013 against Scotland at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. He replaced the injured Arno Botha in the 5th minute and was named as Man of the Match as his side won 30–17. 9 further substitute appearances followed during the 2013 international season as he firmly established himself as a regular member of the national squad.
