Verna du Toit – Abrie de Koning

This is a 2 minute short that I had to produce for a project at NMMU. I interviewed Verna du Toit who belongs to those group of artists we term Realists. Her art covers an exceptionally wide range of content and she works in various media such as oil, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, watercolour and mixed media. Many of her works include magnificent portraits with particular emphasis on the eyes. They depict a sense of honesty which captures their uniqueness. This honesty is carried throughout her artworks which include figures both clothed and unclothed, landscape and interiors where she enjoys the freedom of expression to say it as it is. Her art can be characterized as symbolic, surrealistic and expressionistic.

Vimeo is a video sharing platform that was launched in 2004 by a group of filmmakers. Since then, the platform has grown exponentially with most users being creators and artists in film, animation, music and other works of art who use Vimeo as a way to share and promote their work. Because Vimeo is regarded as more of a professional network of artists, the community is much more appreciative of the content that gets shared there, resulting in kinder and more useful discussions compared to YouTube.
