Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS)
GAUTENG – Three suspect between the ages of 32 and 45 are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates court on Friday 24 December 2021 for alleged theft of Transnet fuel.
The fuel was contained in a truck that had been seized as an exhibit for another case of damage to essential infrastructure and theft of fuel. The said truck was parked at the Brackendowns police station awaiting Transnet officials to drain it out from the truck and recover the fuel.
On arrival at the police station the trio allegedly purported to be the Transnet officials coming to recover the fuel and were initially granted permission by an unsuspecting constable at the police station. They allegedly drained the fuel from the truck into their Crafter.
A senior police officer at the station arrested the trio upon enquiring and the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team assisted by the visible policing unit seized exhibits and vehicles used in the commission of crime.
