The brand-new Clover Showtime Show of the Year Trophy was presented to a play, Twelfth Night, this year on Friday evening (29 January) , reports Artslink.co.za.
For the first time since the advent of the awards programme in 1991, when Pemads Grapes of Wrath won, a play won the trophy. Clover’s Senior National Promotions Officer, Milly Kemp, handed over the sparkling cup to PE Shakespearean Festival President, Rocky Mann, and the play’s director, Lesley Barnard, on the Little Theatre stage on Friday.
Rocky Mann also received the prestigious Clover Bowl, for Special Achievement in Theatre, for guiding the return of the open-air theatre, Mannville, back to operation in 2015 from Milly Kemp, who travelled from Johannesburg for the awards evening, while his own family’s trophy – for Innovation in Theatre – went to Robin Williams, for her concept of Platform Productions.
Rocky’s wife Brigitte was also inducted into the Clover Showtime Hall of Fame, along with ace theatre photographer Chris Gertsch and top sound man, Clear as a Bell’s Neil Thomson.
