Top Click Explains Who Its SEO and Google Ads Service Is For

17 October 2026 By Alan Straton Leave a Comment

This October, Top Click is telling South African businesses plainly that it is not the right agency for everyone. Spring and the approach to year end are when many companies reassess who handles their marketing, so the search specialist has published a frank account of the clients it accepts, the ones it turns away, and exactly what those it does take on can expect.

There is a practical motive behind it. A large number of local businesses reach the last quarter tied to a marketing arrangement that has produced little: the monthly reports keep coming, the invoices keep being settled, yet rankings and revenue have not moved. When they start shopping for an alternative, they frequently meet agencies willing to promise whatever it takes to sign them. Top Click believes that spelling out fit at the very beginning spares everyone wasted effort, and that anyone appointing a new supplier deserves to know precisely what they are paying for.

Focused on search and nothing else

Rather than presenting itself as full service, Top Click positions itself as a specialist digital marketing agency. Its remit is search, which means SEO, Google Ads and answer engine optimisation, a newer field concerned with getting brands mentioned in answers produced by AI tools. Beyond that, the agency is upfront about what it leaves alone. Managing Instagram, designing email campaigns and the long list of extras that full-service firms fold into a retainer are not part of its offering.

It has worked this way for 18 years. The team is deliberately kept small and consists of senior staff only, so no juniors handle client work. Top Click says it hires carefully and retrains every newcomer from the ground up, which means the person doing the work on an account is also the person who knows it best.

Who tends to be a good match

The agency says its strongest client relationships have several things in common. These are established companies, typically with marketing staff of their own, looking for a specialist to complement that team rather than take its place. They commit a meaningful budget to marketing instead of expecting big returns from a token spend. What they sell is something customers already want, and their websites support conversions rather than getting in the way. They are also willing to let the experts they appoint get on with the job without overseeing every step.

Top Click is equally precise about who falls outside its scope. Startups counting on a breakthrough from a very small budget are not a fit, nor are businesses wanting every marketing service from a single provider, commission-only or affiliate arrangements, or sites so broken that they could not convert the visitors search would bring. In the agency’s view, search marketing magnifies a sound business but is no cure for one that is failing.

The problems it tackles first

Working as an SEO agency for 18 years, Top Click says it has reviewed the SEO of thousands of websites and keeps running into the same issues. On-page basics are frequently absent: page titles reading only “Home”, empty meta descriptions and no H1 headings. Promised backlinks were never delivered, or whatever links exist are poor-quality spam. Technical SEO such as site speed, how pages display on mobile and structured data has been neglected. Keyword research has been aimed at phrases no one actually searches.

In paid search, the agency highlights a recurring trend in Google Ads accounts, where a big portion of the budget goes on a company’s own brand name. Those clicks come from people who would have reached the business regardless, and including them inflates return on ad spend. Other frequent mistakes are badly organised campaigns, e-commerce shopping feeds left unoptimised, a lack of negative keywords, conversion tracking that records the wrong actions, and Google’s suggestions accepted without scrutiny.

Every engagement begins with a snapshot audit that identifies what is broken and where the opportunities lie. The agency then repairs the foundations, including page structure, technical SEO, ad structures and shopping feeds, and builds on that base month by month.

Its approach to Google Ads

As a Google Premier Partner, Top Click offers Google Ads management that spans account audits, keyword research grounded in search intent, campaigns split by product, service and intent, product-by-product shopping feed optimisation, ad copy that mirrors what people type, negative keyword management, bid strategy, conversion tracking and Merchant Center fixes. The agency says it disregards most of Google’s automated recommendations, since they are built to raise spend rather than improve return.

What clients can expect

A handful of commitments define how Top Click handles accounts. Contracts run month to month, with no lock-in periods or penalty clauses, and clients keep ownership of their data. The agency does not take commission, operate pay-for-performance deals or claim a share of sales; clients pay a fixed fee for the work done. It acknowledges it is not the lowest-priced option, yet says it costs a fraction of what big agencies charge, because clients are not funding juniors, large offices or tiers of account managers.

Openness runs through all of it. Top Click works with professional platforms including Similarweb, Semrush and Ahrefs, and gives clients access so they can check backlinks and monitor rankings for themselves. Each monthly report is accompanied by a video explanation, and the agency has released more than 700 videos to help clients understand what their money is buying. It also commits to telling clients when something is wrong, including when their own website is losing them conversions, even if that is unwelcome news.

Why fit matters at this time of year

For many South African businesses, October is the month to weigh up what marketing achieved during the year and choose what to continue. Knowing whether an agency is the right fit makes that choice easier. Companies that match Top Click’s profile get a small, senior team dedicated solely to search. Those needing social media, email design or an all-in-one package will know from the outset, before any discussion, that another supplier is a better option.
