Time to run and walk around the stadium

12 May 2014 By Alan Straton

Local companies and social teams are expected to take up the challenge of the Investec Night Relay which starts on Thursday evening and will consist of 4 races on a monthly basis between Thursday 15th May and the Thursday 14th August this year.

Hosted by the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, the Investec Night Relay is a popular corporate relay event for teams of 5 runners or 3 walkers with each team member completing a 5km lap around the stadium and lake precinct. “The Series is not only a fun corporate team building opportunity but also a challenge on urban renewal in our city and an opportunity for companies to play a role in supporting local charities. This year the Investec Night Relay will be supporting the ACVV Kamvalethu Drop-in Centre, the only drop-in centre for street children in Port Elizabeth situated near the Stadium precinct.” said Cumesh Moodliar, the Regional Head of the Specialist Bank.

Bright clothes, glow in the dark or trail run lights are encouraged to add to the atmosphere of the event as the Night Relay enters it’s 4th year having been started through an initiative of the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) to highlight urban renewal in the Sydenham area around the Stadium.

Entry into the Investec Night Relay is just R500 for a 5-person running team or R300 for a 3-person walking team with a 25% discount being offered to companies who wish to pay for all 4 race nights up front. Collection of race kit takes place at the World of Windows VIP Lounge at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium from 4.30pm next Thursday evening and the race gets underway at 6pm followed by prize giving at 8.30pm. Floating trophies and winners medals are presented to the best Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Running teams and the best walking team on the evening.

Gamble Pharmacy are the reigning Men’s Relay Team Champions and currently Investec lead by example having entered 7 teams with Whitfield Fintax a close second with 6 teams followed by SRK Consultings 3 and PwC’s 3 teams. Over 100 teams are expected to take part on Thursday evening.

Team entry can be made on www.InvestecNightRelay.co.za before Wednesday lunch time with late entry also possible on race day at an additional cost from 4.30pm. For further information on the Night Relay contact Michelle at Zports on 041 484 7860.
