Rent is a rock musical with music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson, loosely based on Giacomo Puccini`s opera La Boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City`s East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
Rent is directed by Robin Williams backed by Choreographer Chireen Ferreira and MD Petrus Meyer and features some of the Bay’s brightest young talent.
The lead roles of Mark and Roger will be played by Jaydee Mulder, last seen as Franz Liebkind in The Producers and Ryan in High School Musical, alongside Phillip Cowie, a G&S regular who has appeared in numerous revues and cabarets as well as playing Tommy in Annie Get Your Gun.
The tragic Mimi is played by Cailan van Heerden, taking on her first major musical role. Other cast members include Zena Bally, Kasvia von Memerty, Arthur Daniels, Litha Hewitt-Coleman and a fabulous supporting ensemble.
Rent is brought to you by PEMADS in association with Platform Productions and tickets are available at Computicket in your nearest Checkers or Shoprite or by clicking on this link: https://online.computicket.com/web/event/rent_the_musical/1210492638
