THIS is what I would cease being a vegetarian for – Sweet and Sour Pork from the Canton Restaurant at 232 Main Road, Walmer. BUT, sanity prevailed and I settled for the vegetarian option – Vegetable Chow Mein. The Canton is a venerable institution that has been around for decades. Under the ownership of Peter and Verna Whitely the Canton moved from Govan Mbeki Avenue to Walmer and still offers wonderful, non-greasy, non-oily Chinese food that is great value for money. Try their Crispy Fried Prawns – remember to phone ahead to alert them, though. Phone: 041 581 1016 – Taken by the Editor whilst wandering aimlessly about pretending to be in the know.
