This is how Far Europe’s EV Market is Ahead of us

The European Alternative Fuels Observatory tracks and publishes data with regard to alternative fueled vehicles.

With respect to electrical vehicles the Observatory has data dating back to 2012.

In 2012:

  • The total number of Normal and fast public charging points: 1 518
  • The total number of Fast chargers per 100 km highway: 0.4
  • PEV per public charging points per vehicle: 6
  • The total number of Fast public charging points (> 22kW): 47
  • The total number of Normal power public charging points (<= 22kW): 1 500

At the end of 2018:

  • The total number of Normal and fast public charging points: 26 162
  • The total number of Fast chargers per 100 km highway: 30
  • PEV per public charging points per vehicle: 8
  • The total number of Fast public charging points (> 22kW): 3 848
  • The total number of Normal power public charging points (<= 22kW): 22 314

Phenomenal growth when you consider that we in Port Elizabeth can count on one hand the number of public charging points available for EV’s.

The Observatory monitors Biofuels, Electricity, Hydrogen, LPG and Natural gas – comparing all of the AV’s on offer, electricity is by far the biggest growth market in Europe.
