The sweet and spicy flavours of Asia

The Bayside Pantry at The Boardwalk takes food explorers on an exciting tour of the sweet, spicy and oftentimes sizzling hot flavours of Asia in May 2016. On Wednesday nights, The Bayside Pantry’s extensive buffet will be decorated with authentic Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian and Taiwanese dishes.

The exciting Asian tour includes an array of exciting soups, salads, tempura treats, stir fries, curries, hot pots, vegetables and desserts. Soups to sample include hot and sour vegetable soup and chicken wonton soup, served with Japanese milk bread; Taiwanese bread rolls; crispy prawn crackers and Asian style dips. At the salad station, there is a choice of Asian dressings, salads and cold starters such as grilled eggplant with chili shrimp; ginger cashew chicken salad; seafood salad with wasabi mayo; Malaysian shrimp fried rice; Vietnamese coconut and lemon grass mussels, and fried fish with tamarind sauce. Diners can get creative at the stir fry station where there is a selection of Asian vegetables, chicken, pork and fish to mix and match.

“In addition to test tasting innovative Asian street food such as Wonton with hot sauce and chicken satay with peanut sauce, guests should definitely make a point of sampling the delicious beef rending; green Thai chicken curry; stewed pork and Vietnamese yell fish curry at the hot pots station. This is hearty and satisfying fare on chilly winter nights,” says Nqobile Majozi, Marketing Manager at The Boardwalk.

To end off the Asian experience, there is a delightful choice of desserts to try. Amongst these are homemade green tea ice cream; mango ice cream and sesame chocolate ice cream, as well as leche flan; egg tarts; uiro (steamed cake of rice flour and sugar); banana fritters; dango (Japanese dumplings) and kanorn krok (coconut cakes).

The Asian Buffet is available during May between 18h00 and 22h00 on Wednesdays. The cost is R149 per person. Booking is essential on (041) 507 7793.
