Looking Back on 2020, What Will We Remember?
Dear MyPE
In January, we greeted smiling parents and watched students who had been with us since birth proudly march into the Ubuntu School. A promising start to 2020, but in March, everything changed.
This has been the most challenging year in the history of our organization. We launched an Emergency COVID-19 Response to protect the most vulnerable. We endured extreme hardships and came together to mourn.
But the story we choose to remember is one of resilience and hope. We have witnessed remarkable courage and generosity. This is the spirit of ubuntu — the ethos of our shared humanity.
We have a new reality to face. There is no substitute for the sanctuary of the Ubuntu Campus. Here, children get quality education, daily meals, regular check-ups, and a sense of belonging. Our Safe Campus Initiative will enable us to adapt our services by implementing new safety and sanitation procedures, hiring essential medical staff, and upgrading our facility to create a healthy environment for children to learn.
Our plan can bring back the hope and promise of what we felt on our first day of school.
Thank you for your being there during our most trying times. From the Ubuntu family to yours, we wish you a healthy, peaceful festive season and a happy New Year.
Regards
Jacob Lief and Malizole ‘Banks’ Gwaxula
