Held in 9 countries, contested between 16 international teams, 8 hours of play per day, 750 million people, 48 hours of party, crazy spectator costumes and the third leg hits Port Elizabeth on 9 and 10 December 2011.
Billed as the biggest Rugby Party, this seasons HSBC Sevens Rugby World Series kicks off in Australia on 25 November, travels to Dubai for 2 and 3 December and then crashes into Port Elizabeth on 9 and 10 December.
The game of Sevens Rugby is quick and action packed and this World Series is being contested between; Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, United States and Wales.
Fans dress funny, party hard and provide a secondary spectacle. Present Sevens Captain, Kyle Brown remarked at the official launch of ticket sales today that the craziest costume he has seen so far was Snow White AND her Seven Dwarves. If you need further proof of the almost fanatically strange support that Sevens Rugby engenders then look no further than the tribute to Kyle Brown below (Private message to the Longhair – Turn your sound up, Babe):
Present at the launch today were the usual suspects and line ups of people seeking the limelight – nuff said.
But, my respect for Sevens coach, Paul Treu definitely went up a notch when he singled out Port Elizabeth Sevens player, Fabian Juries as an outstanding example of the talent coming out of our area. Fabian holds the present SA record for most tries scored by a player in the tournament at 179 – 3rd overall with Santiago Gomez Cora from Argentina the top dog on 230 tries and Ben Gollings from England second with 220 tries. Treu also confirmed that Cecil Afrika, widely tipped to usurp Juries record, will be available for the Port Elizabth leg.
Ticket prices for Friday, 9 December are: Upper Tier R80, Lower Tier R120, while premier seating on the Grand Stand costs R250. Prices for Saturday, 10 December are: Upper Tier R100, Lower Tier R150 and Lower Tier (Premier Seating) R300.
“Rugby fans will be able to watch top-class, international Sevens rugby for as little as R80. This includes a full day’s action plus an exciting line-up of entertainment.” said Andy Marinos, General Manager: Commercial and Marketing at SARU.

Lest you forget that it is actually all about the Rugby have a look at the Seven Best Tries last year in Las Vegas – look out for Cecil Afrika’s burst of speed and long run to score at around 2 minutes 30 seconds:
