The Nelson Mandela Bay ANC REC released this statement honouring the 3 Ward Councillors killed in killed in a car accident on the R72 near Hopewell on Sunday night 15 January 2012 (See: Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality saddened by loss of 3 Ward Councillors):
The African National Congress in the Nelson Mandela region receives the news of the tragic death of its cadres in council with greatest sadness. It is quite a great loss to the movement, council and public in general. The ANC is very shocked of your untimely death. We are equally very worried of the entire detachment especially for getting injured in the line of duty. You met your death and injuries whilst you were in pursuance of the ANC mission especially of building an effective and developmental local government.
We dip our banner with greatest appreciation and gratitude to these young, intelligent and future building cadres who spared neither strength nor courage to ensure that the ANC becomes a more effective instrument in the hands of the people. We salute you for having dedicated your energies and skills to build this great movement which celebrated its 100 years of its existence on 8th January 2012.
We wish to convey our deepest condolences and wishes of speedy recovery to all families, friends, comrades and colleagues. We trust that the Lord will be with all the families, sons and daughters of these cadres in this trying period.
Losing life is one of those painful, trying and time testing periods. It is worse when one is in serious deployment of representing the aspirations and desires of the masses of our people. Conveying such uninviting and sad news to families, friends, comrades and masses of our people is a difficult and stressing exercise.
We are also highly disturbed to hear the disgusting news that the Democratic Alliance has started making moves in the 3 wards for by election campaigning whilst the bodies of these cadres are still warm. It is rather insensitive and immoral to experience such disgusting politicking over the misery and sadness of other families and the African National Congress. We condemn this alleged deed in the strongest possible terms.
Your contribution did not start in council. You have been there in the movement as young and eloquent cadres. You have made us proud and we are highly grateful of your contribution.
The ANC will in close liaison with families and its deployees in council coordinate efforts that will ensure a dignified departure of these cadres.
ANC Nelson Mandela Regional Executive Committee
Editor’s Notes: And, once again a political party has used a council employee, council assets and council bandwidth – paid for by the ratepayers – to send out their press statements.
