Thanks for making a difference in people’s lives Alan

30 March 2020 By Alan Straton

Through the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer

Dear Alan Straton

This is a note to thank you for helping make the 2019 Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer the wonderful success that it was.

In addition to sharing information with hundreds of thousands of listeners about cancer and the need to live a healthy lifestyle through regular sporting activities and proper diet, the festival attracted a record field of 13 200.

The final accounts have been settled and we thank you for helping us raise a total of R450 000 to support people suffering from cancer and to promote sport development in the province.

Of this amount, R375 000 will be going to the CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa) Eastern Cape, which is the top-performing CANSA branch in the country.

CANSA will use the funds to transport patients staying on the premises or who are housebound to and from treatment centres in the Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan area.

Patients have to come from all over the Eastern Cape to receive their treatment in Port Elizabeth.

The remaining R75 000 will go towards sport development at Heatherbank Primary School, which is building a new sports field for children from Gqebera township.

This would not have been possible without your valuable contribution towards the event.

Thank you sincerely

Alfie Jay
Managing Director: Algoa FM

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
