On Sunday, February 8, 2014, Mater Dei Catholic Church raised R170,000 ensuring that the 31 Top Learners from Port Elizabeth’s townships that were unjustly rejected funding from the government loan scheme (NSFAS) would be able to register for University. Depending on the learners situation, the Salt of the Earth, Light of the World Fund has paid registration fees, provided taxi fare, and assisted with books wherever possible. It’s an incredible testament to the power a small community can have in changing the lives of others.
