Tax Deadline Reminder

Cabinet on Thursday reminded taxpayers who submit their tax returns manually or by post to submit their returns ahead of the deadline next week.

“Cabinet reminds taxpayers who submit their tax returns manually or by post that the 23 September 2016 deadline for filing their returns for the 2016 tax season is fast approaching,” said Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe.

The 2016 tax season began on 1 July with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) Commissioner Tom Moyane embarking on a walk to interact with tax payers, business owners and vendors among others, on the importance of paying their taxes.

Commissioner Moyane set out on a walk for tax route of 11.75km symbolising the country’s revenue target of R1.175 trillion.

On Thursday, Cabinet thanked taxpayers who have already filed their returns.

“The revenue collected by SARS aids government in providing services to millions of South Africans who need it the most,” said Minister Radebe.

In addition, to the 23 September deadline, the deadline for all non-provisional taxpayers via eFiling or at a branch is 25 November 2016.

Non-provisional taxpayers are the majority of employed individuals, who submit a tax return and who earn an income from one or more employer.

The deadline for provisional taxpayers, who submit returns via eFiling, is 31 January 2017. – SAnews.gov.za
