Two men jump off Swartkops River railway bridge – one body recovered

At 14h30 on Sunday 12 October, NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from EC Government Health EMS reporting that they were on the scene at Swartkops River railway bridge, approximately a mile upstream from Swartkops River Mouth, where two men were reportedly missing in the river according to eye-witnesses. Child disappears in Swartkops River

On Wednesday, 01 January, at 14h33, NSRI Port Elizabeth and Police, including a Police Dive Unit, responded to the Swartkops River where it was reported that a child had disappeared under water after being caught in the river currents. 5 Rescued as boats capsize in Swartkops River mouth

At 07h02 today the NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of red distress flares sighted in the vicinity of the Swartkops River Mouth, North of Port Elizabeth, with unconfirmed eye-witness reports of a boat capsized. No Rain, Yet Stormwater Canal Runs With Water?

On Tuesday 15 February I accompanied Conrad and Rainer from Ocean Messengers up and down the Swartkops River. We were very kindly escorted by Gustav from Marine and Coastal Management. Meeting up at Redhouse we burbled along down towards Swartkops.
