In my home a Triple S refers to the things you do in the bathroom.... One of which is also called a relax as in; "I am going to relax," which was a warning to sensitive noses to clear the area. In Port Elizabeth a Triple S could also refer to the Stadium, Ships and St Croix. The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium - built for the 2010 World Cup and still something of an enigma. SABC's Janine Lee has fun releasing African Penguins off of St Croix yesterday. 72 previously oiled penguins were released on 15 September 2016 in a Joint Venture between SANCCOB, SANParks, NSRI and Extreme Projects. The penguins were oiled in the latter part of August after a miscreant ship scrubbed illegally. African Penguins are released from Extreme Projects Super Duck and SANParks Malusi Duck. 72 previously oiled penguins were released near to St Croix on 15 September 2016 in a Joint Venture between SANCCOB, SANParks, NSRI and Extreme Projects. At 09h00 this morning, 15 August 2016 NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the Sea Rescue boat Eikos Rescuer IV to assist SANParks with the release of 72 African penguins back into their colony on St Croix Island. The African Penguin, Africa's only surviving penguin, breeds only in South Africa and Namibia. South Africa supports 90% of the population, including the four largest colonies: Dassen, St Croix, Robben and Bird islands. Dassen and Robben islands lie off the west coast, north of Cape Town. Cape Receife to Bird Island

Recently I joined Rainer from Ocean Messengers on a flight over Cape Receife to Bird Island in a quest to see if we could spot the start of the Sardine Run in Algoa Bay. Rainer had spotted the sardine run off of the Tsitsikamma coast 3 weeks before and reckoned we could start seeing the sardine run here soon.
