ACSA monitoring strike action

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and its stakeholders are monitoring the strike action by the South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu). In a statement on Monday, ACSA's Senior Communications Officer, Deborah Francis, assured passengers that no striking workers will be permitted to demonstrate at any of its nine airports, given the status afforded to airports by the National Key Point Act. Transnet and Labour Settle on 8.5% Increase

Transnet and labour have reached an 8.5 percent across the board wage settlement. The parastatal and its two recognised unions - the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) and United Transport and Allied Trade Union (Utatu) - finalised the terms of agreement at the Transnet Bargaining Council on Wednesday. Transnet group chief executive, Brian Molefe, described the agreement as a milestone that will go a long way in strengthening relations with employees. 70 000 Truck Drivers Poised to Strike

A decision on whether 70 000 truck drivers will embark on a nationwide strike or not - which could have disastrous effects on the freight and logistics industries - is expected on Wednesday. According to South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) General Secretary, Zenzo Mahlangu, the union will have meetings with employers early this week and should there be no agreement reached, the decision to go on strike will be taken.
