June Business Confidence declines

South Africa’s Business Confidence Index declined by 0.3 index points in June, dropping below the level of a year ago. The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) says the business confidence index (BCI) shed 2.5 index points in December 2014, coming in at 88.3. The BCI declined from 90.8 in November 2014 and is 3.6 points below the December reading of 2013. "The 88.3 is the lowest level since July 2014 when the BCI measured 87.9," Sacci said on Thursday. Business confidence recovered in August reaching 89.0 index points from 87.9 in July, according to the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci). The Business Confidence Index (BCI) recovered by 1.1 index points from July to 89.0 in August 2014. Sacci, as it released its monthly BCI on Wednesday, said the lower level of business confidence in August 2014 was at 90.5 as compared to last year was mainly caused by restrained real activity. The Trade Activity Index (TAI) declined by four index points in July, said the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci). The seasonally adjusted composite Trade Activity Index (TAI) declined by 4 index points to 48 in July 2014, from 52 in June 2014, said Sacci on Thursday. The Trade Activity Index (TAI) showed a slight increase in June, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) said on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted composite TAI increased slightly by two index points to 52 in June after declining by a point to 50 in May. The creation of a small business ministry as well as the ministerial appointments made by President Jacob Zuma has been welcomed by business. Business confidence took a dip on April falling to 92.6 from 92.7 in March, said the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci). Releasing its monthly Business Confidence Index (BCI) on Wednesday, Sacci said that business confidence remained unchanged as BCI declined by 0.1 index point. Trade conditions recovered in October from a setback in August and September 2013, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) said on Wednesday. Trade conditions remained in positive territory in February at about the same level as in January 2013, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) said on Wednesday.
