Data Breach Compromises 24 Million South Africans Data

Experian - a consumer, business and credit information services agency – has experienced a breach of data which has exposed some personal information of as many as 24 million South Africans and 793 749 business entities to a suspected fraudster. Experian has confirmed that the breach has been reported to law enforcement and the appropriate regulatory authorities. Cash-In-Transit Robberies Decline

SABRIC, the South African Banking Risk Information Centre, on behalf of the banking industry noted the resurgence of cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies since the easing of lockdown restrictions in June this year. Despite fears that CIT robberies may be on the increase, there has in fact been a 5% decrease in incidents for 2020 when compared to 1 January to 12 August in 2019. SABRIC, the South African Banking Risk Information Centre, on behalf of the banking industry has released its annual crime stats for 2019 and is pleased to announce that robust mitigation strategies deployed by member banks and partners are showing results. With the festive season fast approaching, the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) have warned bank customers to be wary of their surroundings when going to and from the bank to deposit or to withdraw cash. SAPS on Monday said despite continuing public awareness, it has recently reported incidents of robberies perpetrated against people carrying cash to and from the banks.
