Driving between Wilderness and George along the back roads – Featured Blog

10 July 2016 By Port Elizabethan

Today's posts from our featured Port Elizabeth Blogger: Driving between Wilderness and George along the back roads: Last Thursday morning I did a presentation at a tourism stakeholder workshop in the Tsitsikamma and after lunch moved on to George for a weekend exhibit.  Having had some time on my hands I decided to veer off the main road and pick up a few Geocaches along Bo-Langvlei Road, the dirt road running behind the lakes between Sedgefield and Wilderness.  The plan wasn't … [Read more...] about Driving between Wilderness and George along the back roads – Featured Blog

Let’s be safe on our roads

2 December 2015 By Alan Straton

Circular Drive Accident 7 February 2012

As the festive season approaches, government is appealing to all road users, including pedestrians, to be vigilant and exercise caution on the roads. Road safety continues to be an issue of concern to government as many lives are continuously lost as a result of road accidents. The recently reported tragic accident on the R18 near Vereeniging, where 19 people died, is just one very unfortunate example. Acting Cabinet spokesperson Phumla Williams said the country cannot afford more … [Read more...] about Let’s be safe on our roads

EC Roads Department is robbing people of their basic right to mobility

5 December 2012 By Port Elizabethan

The Eastern Cape Department of Roads is robbing the people of this province of their basic right of mobility by not fulfilling its core function of maintaining our roads infrastructure.  Problems in this department highlight the broken chain of accountability that flows from MEC's right throughout the provincial government administration.  Until there are consequences for poor performance nothing will change. Over 2 075 kilometres of tarred roads in our province have been passed over to the … [Read more...] about EC Roads Department is robbing people of their basic right to mobility

Urgent road repairs needed to save Baviaanskloof tourism

12 November 2012 By Port Elizabethan

Owners of guest houses in the Baviaanskloof stand to lose their peak-season December income and may be forced to shed employees because the flood damaged access road into this World Heritage site has remained closed since heavy flooding last month. This road must be repaired as a matter of urgency. I have been informed that drainage has been improved on the Western side, and the road from Willowmore to Zandvlakte has been repaired. However, no repairs have been done on the Eastern side. While … [Read more...] about Urgent road repairs needed to save Baviaanskloof tourism

Repair of damaged roads due to rioting

13 July 2012 By Port Elizabethan

Drove down Heugh Rd and Community Street today and noticed quite a bit of damage to the tar on the roads. I have a feeling that the damage was most probably caused by the burning of tyres etc during the riots. We have a largely dysfunctional, struggling Metro, where the people who pay very little, in respect to rates, lights and water, find the muscle and behave like thugs to demand better services. The ratepayers now have to cough up even more to pay for the repair done to our … [Read more...] about Repair of damaged roads due to rioting
