Real Retail Sales growth for October continued to record a reasonably healthy growth rate under the weak economic circumstances. From a revised 3% year-on-year growth rate for September, October's rate rose slightly to 3.3%. This remains very healthy considering a 3rd quarter real economic growth rate of nearer to 1%. Retail trade sales figures beat expectations
Retail trade sales rose by 6.4% in August, beating market expectation, said Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). "Retail trade sales increased by 6.4% year-on-year in August 2012," said Stats SA on Wednesday. The biggest contributors to the increase included general dealers, retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods as well as hardware, paint and glass. April Retail Trade Sales Weaken
Retail trade sales weakened in April with the year-on-year rate falling to 1% compared to a revised 6.7% in March, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. Market expectation was that retail sales would show growth of 4.5%. Retail trade sales rose by 6.8% year-on-year in March, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. In February, retail sales rose by a downward revised 6.7% increase. According to Stats SA, retail trade sales for the first quarter of 2012 showed an increase of 5.9% compared to the first quarter of 2011.
