The South African population has risen to 58.8 million from 2018’s 57. 9 million, figures released by Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) Statistician General Risenga Maluleke has revealed. The statistics are contained in the 2019 mid-year population estimates report released on Monday. Of the 58.8 million, 51% are female while 49% are male. South Africa's population is estimated to be at 54 million with the life expectancy of the population at 61-years of age, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) announced on Thursday. Stats SA released the Mid-year Population Estimates stated that life expectancy has increased from an estimated 52-years in 2005 to 61-years in 2014.
