ABYC’s Largest Local Regatta this Century

21 January 2018 By Alan Straton

Who can spot my son @pwstraton in this image? Photo from 2008 when a young (ish) Philip Straton sailed in the Giza Challenge on a Pacer 27 for their National Championships in Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth. What a great sailing regatta that was for the young crew under the tutelage of Chris Frost. At the time of writing the Giza Challenge is still the largest most well attended local regatta hosted by the Algoa Bay Yacht Club this century - Taken by the Editor whilst wandering aimlessly about … [Read more...] about ABYC’s Largest Local Regatta this Century

Take a Sail With Me – ABYC Week 2014 Race 4

9 May 2014 By Port Elizabethan

GoPro time lapse from the 4th and final race sailed on Wild Thing (Russel Morgan) in ABYC Week 1 to 4 May 2014. The Algoa Bay Yacht Club's annual prestige regatta was sailed in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in very light conditions and produced a first in that not one race was sailed over the entire course. Four races were shortened and two abandoned as the fleet struggled in extremely light conditions - http://abyc.co.za/another-first-for-abyc/ In this recording you will see a bit of argy … [Read more...] about Take a Sail With Me – ABYC Week 2014 Race 4

Take a Sail With Me – Pacer 27

20 February 2014 By Port Elizabethan

On Wednesday evening Darryl and I accompanied Russel on his Pacer 27 for a burn in Algoa Bay. The Pacer is a 27 foot sport boat with an asymmetric spinnaker - really quick off wind and addictive to sail on. The best conditions to sail on the Pacer demand a day of east wind to bring the chop and waves into the bay (the bigger the better) and lots of patience as we beat out to the Bell Buoy or further into the bay off Port Elizabeth. After an hour or more of beating out offshore the … [Read more...] about Take a Sail With Me – Pacer 27

To me it looks like a corpulent middle aged Caddy bakkie with bits chopped off

VWSA Golf Cabriolet

I am sorry guys but I think the new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet looks just like a fattened up middle age Caddy with the back bits chopped off and lowered. I can't quite define my feeling of unease when looking at the images of the new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet and get the impression that someone said; "We need to have a car that will appeal to hairdressers and their clients - one that is safe (ish) and affordable whilst being built up from bits we have available in bins scattered around the … [Read more...] about To me it looks like a corpulent middle aged Caddy bakkie with bits chopped off
