We will not take instructions from a prisoner
Dear MyPE Criminally convicted former ANC councillor Andile Lungisa’s statements on petitioning the Acting Mayor, Cllr Thsonono Buyeye, and Speaker, Cllr Buyelwa Mafaya, to postpone all council meetings until February 2021 is just another example of the ANC and its connected cadres’ desperation to hold on to power and loot the coffers of Nelson Mandela Bay. The DA will not be instructed on when municipal meetings should be held by a convicted criminal and prisoner. Lungisa is not behind … [Read more...] about We will not take instructions from a prisoner
Nelson Mandela Bay Speaker in contempt of court
Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) will be seeking a contempt of court order against Nelson Mandela Bay Speaker, ANC councillor Buyelwa Mafaya, after her reprehensible conduct during today’s Nelson Mandela Bay council meeting. Mafaya’s argument that she had adhered to a court order by placing the item of the election of an Executive Mayor on the agenda, but not having to follow through with the actual election, is nonsensical in the extreme and in bad faith. The Speaker’s remarks … [Read more...] about Nelson Mandela Bay Speaker in contempt of court

DA votes in favour of adoption of Metro’s process plan
Dear MyPE In the interest of putting the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) first, the Democratic Alliance (DA) today voted in favour of the adoption of the Metro’s process plan, to implement the recommendations made by National Treasury. It is imperative that these recommendations are implemented so that National Treasury can release almost R1,6 billion in grant funding that it is currently being withheld. The DA has continuously been fighting for suitable intervention measures as … [Read more...] about DA votes in favour of adoption of Metro’s process plan
NMB residents’ shoulder the financial brunt of Coalition of Corruption’s desperation
Dear MyPE Nelson Mandela Bay Speaker, ANC Cllr Buyelwa Mafaya, and the self-styled “Interim” Mayor, Cllr Thsonono Buyeye, are wasting residents hard-earned money on frivolous court cases, in their desperation to cling to power. Both Mafaya and Buyeye have been flouting due process, by refusing to place the election of a new mayor on the council agenda, ever since former Mayor, Mongameli Bobani was removed from office in December last year. The Municipal Structures Act clearly states … [Read more...] about NMB residents’ shoulder the financial brunt of Coalition of Corruption’s desperation
Chaos at Korsten Drivers’ License Testing Centre
Dear MyPE The crisis at the Korsten Drivers' License Testing Centre in Port Elizabeth is causing endless disruption to the lives of the long-suffering residents of Nelson Mandela Bay, placing them in danger and negatively impacting their finances. All of this can be easily avoided if the ANC-led Coalition of Corruption stops dragging its feet to ensure that the Motherwell Traffic and Licensing Centre becomes operational as soon as possible. Today, 21 October 2020, I was joined by DA EC … [Read more...] about Chaos at Korsten Drivers’ License Testing Centre
Helenvale residents roll up their sleeves to tackle illegal dumping crisis
Dear MyPE Today, 14 October 2020, I was joined by local DA councillors and 100 volunteers in an effort to clear the massive illegal dumping site in front of the Helenvale Primary School in the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth. (see pictures here, here and here) This dumping site poses a massive health and safety risk and is teeming with rats and is, therefore, a breeding ground for infections. The Municipality seems unable or unwilling to clear illegal dumping sites and is putting the … [Read more...] about Helenvale residents roll up their sleeves to tackle illegal dumping crisis

CoGTA MEC must second official to preside over NMB council meeting to avoid legal challenges
Dear MyPE The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be opening itself up to legal action if its next council meeting is presided over by an invalid and unqualified acting City Manager, and if adjustments to the City’s budget are tabled by a self-styled “interim” Executive Mayor. The next council meeting is set down for tomorrow, 2 October 2020, and is illogically taking place in virtual format – even though lockdown Level 1 allows for a full physical council meeting to take place in a venue … [Read more...] about CoGTA MEC must second official to preside over NMB council meeting to avoid legal challenges
In current form the NMB council meeting contravenes court order
Dear MyPE The Nelson Mandela Bay Speaker, ANC Cllr Buyelwa Mafaya, has failed to place the election of an Executive Mayor on the agenda for the upcoming Council meeting, scheduled to take place this Friday, 2 October 2020. This is in direct violation of a recent High Court order, and flies in the face of directives issued to her by both the provincial and national departments of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). I have therefore written to her, to highlight that … [Read more...] about In current form the NMB council meeting contravenes court order

Darkness is killing the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay
Dear MyPE The inability of Nelson Mandela Bay’s ANC-led Coalition of Corruption government to keep streetlights burning in some of the Metro’s most crime-ridden communities has seen residents living in fear of the sun going down and the awaiting darkness. Last night, 22 September 2020, I conducted oversight inspections in Helenvale, Missionvale, Salt Lake and Extension 32 in Bethelsdorp and found these areas in total darkness. (see pics here, here and here) The lack of street lighting … [Read more...] about Darkness is killing the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay
Fairview racecourse invaders must be arrested
Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance condemns, in the strongest terms, the violent attacks against helpless animals on private property that have taken place at the Fairview Racecourse in Nelson Mandela Bay. The invasion of the racecourse by between 150 and 200 people, and subsequent alleged attacks on the horses, have been attributed to grooms who worked at the stables who had allegedly lost their jobs and were unhappy about not receiving UIF payments. Police have confirmed that one of … [Read more...] about Fairview racecourse invaders must be arrested
