Kouga & Koukamma road maintenance programmes collapsing

27 January 2016 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE There seems to be a complete financial collapse for the department of roads and public works' road maintenance budget for the 2016 financial year in the Kouga and Koukamma area, which has a devastating influence on the economic drivers of these two municipalities. This will result in job losses if not rectified immediately. At present, an amount of around R75 million has been diverted from the road maintenance budget for the Sarah Baartman District area (Kouga, Koukamma, … [Read more...] about Kouga & Koukamma road maintenance programmes collapsing

Emergency road maintenance and flood damages in Kouga & Koukamma

6 September 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE After several calls by the residents in both Kouga and Koukamma about the damage caused to roads during the heavy rains over the last week, I held an urgent meeting with Mr Randall Moore, Chief Engineer, in the department of Roads and Public Works on Friday 4 September. In Koukamma, the Suuranys road (DR1800) has been inaccessible for some time and now there is virtually no road left. The milk routes on the Tsitiskamma side also need urgent attention. Kouga has several … [Read more...] about Emergency road maintenance and flood damages in Kouga & Koukamma

Misappropriation of council vehicle by Kouga’s ANC speaker

29 July 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus of Kouga council deems it deplorable that an ANC councillor, Magdalene Dlomo, who occupies the full time berth of Speaker, was afforded the opportunity to use a Kouga council vehicle and petrol card for a period of six months, despite being paid a travel allowance. The Upper Limits of Councillors are properly gazetted and they clearly spell out the salary and travel allowances of councillors including that of a Speaker of a local municipality. … [Read more...] about Misappropriation of council vehicle by Kouga’s ANC speaker

Council to write off a whopping R465.5M

12 February 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

At a Special Council meeting held at The Links, St Francis Bay on Tuesday, 10 February 2015 the ANC-led Kouga Council used their single vote majority to bulldoze through a shocking decision in which they resolved to write off no less than a total of R465.5m unauthorized, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure. Unauthorized expenditure totalled R364.9m, fruitless and wasteful expenditure totalled R31.4m and irregular expenditure was R69.1. All these exorbitant expenses and irregular … [Read more...] about Council to write off a whopping R465.5M

Unemployment issue must be tackled in Kouga

24 April 2014 By Port Elizabethan

The lack of jobs is a major concern for the Kouga municipality. Having a well-run municipality is key to creating the right climate for job creation. Under the ANC leadership the Kouga municipality has gone backwards. A DA governed Kouga will eradicate corruption, cut red tape and will roll out the red carpet for investors. We will replace despair with hope and return Kouga to its former glory when it was run by the Democratic Alliance. The voters of Kouga are looking for change and the DA … [Read more...] about Unemployment issue must be tackled in Kouga

Calls to stop abuse of public funds in Kouga

19 November 2013 By Alan Straton

The ANC's abuse of public funds for the by-elections in Kouga must be stopped immediately. It has become evident that all the community halls in Arcadia in Humansdorp and in Hankey are booked for municipal events prior to the by-elections by ANC Councillors. Upon investigation it was revealed that the Kouga mayor Cllr Booi Koerat, who is also a candidate in Ward 5, has made the following reservations: Mayoral Outreaches: Monday 18 Nov. Kruisfontein Civic - Ward 5 … [Read more...] about Calls to stop abuse of public funds in Kouga

Dear Kouga, Your Municipality for Our R25M, Regards NMBM

25 April 2013 By Port Elizabethan

The Democratic Alliance will today table a notice of motion in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature to dissolve the Kouga council to allow for the appointment of administrators to run the municipality.  Kouga is unable to service its debts. Kouga owes the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) more than R25 million for water services. The municipality has been unable to pay contributions to the pension funds of its workers and its debt to SARS and others creditors are in excess of R80 … [Read more...] about Dear Kouga, Your Municipality for Our R25M, Regards NMBM

Kouga Owes NMBM Millions for Water

23 January 2013 By Port Elizabethan

The Democratic Alliance councillors in both Kouga and the NMBM are fully aware of the acknowledgement of debt signed by the Kouga chief financial officer (CFO) in September 2011 when Kouga agreed to pay off R500,000 per month to cover the debt plus the amount for the current consumption. At the time, the DA in the NMBM calculated that it could at the water usage rate of Kouga at the time, take more than 4 years to pay off the debt and get the current balance back on the 30 day system as … [Read more...] about Kouga Owes NMBM Millions for Water

Kouga Owes NMB Metro R19.5 Million for Water

11 September 2012 By Port Elizabethan

Tomorrow's march by residents ratepayers in the Kouga Municipality will strengthen the hand of the Democratic Alliances' on-going campaign at all three levels of government to rescue this area and the community from a failed ANC administration. We therefore welcome it, as we have been warning the ANC for some time that the people are angry with failed service delivery. Increased public pressure, in tandem with the DA's efforts at council level, will force the ANC to put the people first. Wake up … [Read more...] about Kouga Owes NMB Metro R19.5 Million for Water
