Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE Residents from Kirkwood's Moses Mabhida township has laid siege to the town after R84.5 million was written off for irregular expenditure by the Sunday's River Valley Municipality. This is more than half of the municipality's annual budget of R150 million. People were barred from entering the town by the Public Order Policing unit (POPS) this morning. I was informed that municipal offices, the ANC offices, the fire station, fire-trucks as well as the garbage disposal truck had … [Read more...] about Kirkwood Burns

Wheels are coming off policing in Eastern Cape

23 January 2014 By Port Elizabethan

Kirkwood SAPS

The wheels are coming off policing in the Eastern Cape as vehicles stand still and crime runs on. The fact that Kirkwood police station only had one vehicle operating yesterday (subs: Wed, 22 Jan) for an area servicing 1 327 square km and police arrived on bicycles to deal with a house robbery in Mount Croix in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday (subs: 21 Jan) highlights the massive shortage of operating vehicles in the SAPS in this province. Both the East London and Port Elizabeth flying squads … [Read more...] about Wheels are coming off policing in Eastern Cape

Wilder and Bigger

2013 Wildsfees Kudu Spoeg

The Longhair and I have been playing 'frog in a blender' with the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees for some time now. Every year we travel up to Kirkwood and stay for just a bit longer. This year we arrived on the Saturday morning and stayed until 9:30 pm before tackling the road home. The one disappointment was having to drink coffee and hot chocolate whilst all around me people were fuelling themselves with frothy stuff, fruit from the vine and various other poisins that make you feel silly, sexy or … [Read more...] about Wilder and Bigger
