Dear MyPE This week’s ban on cross-provincial travel for the purposes of hunting, and the ban on hunting overnight within provinces are huge blows to the game ranching industry. It makes little sense. Hunting is an activity that requires very little close human contact. It can only be done in small groups. It takes place in the outdoors. These are precisely the conditions which are not conducive to the spread of Covid-19. To allow hunting would be to say yes to an area of economic … [Read more...] about Ban on travel for hunting is without sense

Lindiwe Zulu still trying to control food distribution
Dear MyPE Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has issued new regulations governing how food relief can be distributed. A month ago, her first draft regulations were shelved after the DA got a court order to block their implementation. The new regulations don’t repeat the demand for departmental approval of all relief efforts but would still plunge relief efforts into a bureaucratic nightmare where food distribution will be hampered. The new regulations issued last week manage … [Read more...] about Lindiwe Zulu still trying to control food distribution
Lindiwe Zulu in court today over food distribution restrictions
Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) case against Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu, takes place in the Western Cape High Court today. The DA has brought the action after Zulu’s department enforced a ban on soup kitchens and drew up tight regulations that hindered the distribution of food parcels by NGOs and charities. The draft regulations were issued two weeks ago and have been applied even though they have not been legally processed. A large number of food relief … [Read more...] about Lindiwe Zulu in court today over food distribution restrictions
The government is starving thousands of South Africans
Dear MyPE The chaotic situation resulting from instructions from the Department of Social Development has led to the closure of food relief operations and thousands of people who were being fed are now without food. A document on food parcel distribution which is labelled a “draft” document, instructs that all private charities close soup kitchens and restrict food parcel deliveries. Even worse, the document declares that a new license must be obtained from the department for every single … [Read more...] about The government is starving thousands of South Africans
Government must assist NGOs, not prosecute them
Dear MyPE According to reports NGOs across the country are frustrated by red tape in applying for permits to distribute food while Government is attempting to centralise this function under an incapable state. There have been reports of individuals being arrested and NGOs being harassed by law enforcement officials for handing out food in communities - all because they did not have proper documentation. We are calling on Government to make it as easy as possible for NGOs who are … [Read more...] about Government must assist NGOs, not prosecute them
#Bosasagate – Home Affairs contract should be cancelled
Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance can reveal that in 2005, Bosasa received a R1 billion contract to manage the Lindela Repatriation facility which houses detained illegal immigrants. This contract was renewed for a further five-year period for an additional R500 million. This was confirmed in a reply to a DA Parliamentary Question from the Department of Home Affairs. Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson came into the spotlight last year when DA Leader Mmusi Maimane forced President Cyril Ramaphosa … [Read more...] about #Bosasagate – Home Affairs contract should be cancelled
