The engine plant of the Volkswagen manufacturing factory in Uitenhage achieved another milestone on Friday, 10 July 2015 with the production of the 650 000th EA111 engine. Last year, the Engine Plant celebrated the production of its 2 millionth engine. The EA111 engines, 1.4-litres and 1.6-litres, are fitted in the Polo Vivo model range (hatch and sedan body variants). Volkswagen Group South Africa's 500 000th EA111 engine rolled off the Engine Plant production line on Friday, 30 May 2014 marking the 2 millionth engine produced. Locally, the engine is used in the South African top selling Polo and Polo Vivo which is produced at the Volkswagen manufacturing factory in Uitenhage. The Struandale Engine Plant (SEP) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, will begin production of a new Power Stroke 3,2-litre diesel engine for the North American market in early 2014. The five-cylinder engine, built off the Puma Global Ranger family of i4 and i5 engines, will be one of three engines available for the new North American Transit produced in Kansas City, Missouri.
