Whittlesea SMMEs celebrated during Women’s Month

Six women in the Chris Hani District Municipality have created work for unemployed local community members through the construction of 15 kilometres of pedestrian walkways in the remote semi-rural town of Whittlesea. The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) started construction in March this and work is expected to come to an end in September this year. Dear MyPE Efforts by the DA to assist farmers whose lost grazing and stock in recent fires have been thwarted by councillors and officials of the Chris Hani District Municipality who claim the correct "protocol" was not followed. Massive losses occurred as the farmers could not stop these fires due to limited resources.  Approximately 40 000 hectares of land, 400 large stock (Cows and Calves), 280 Sheep, 700 kilometers of fencing and an unaccounted number of game where lost. Christmas lights kept sparkling for 100 children from Ward 17 in the Chris Hani shack settlement in Port Elizabeth, who were given new hard-wearing leather school shoes purchased with funds raised by The Boardwalk’s annual Christmas carols and sparkler event on 28 December 2013 which raised R7 495.
