Census results wake-up call for Eastern Cape
The critical state of the Eastern Cape has been highlighted in the Census 2011 results by Statistics South Africa. The official rate of unemployment for the Eastern Cape is now an alarming 37.4% and the expanded unemployment rate is 51.2%, which is the highest in the country. Dear Sir Statistics South Africa seem to be ignoring Central and Richmond Hill in the sense that I am not aware of poster of any sort announcing the Census. Also yellow shirted census officials are conspicuous by their absence in the area. Public Urged to Verify Identity of Census 2011 workers
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has appealed to the public to ensure that the people they allow into their homes during Census 2011 are indeed enumerators. Reacting to reports that two men robbed a house in Johannesburg on Monday after they posed as Census enumerators, Stats SA spokesperson Trevor Oosterwyk said the public could verify the identity of enumerators before inviting them into their homes.
