So are we going back to the days of the Boet?

Boet Erasmus

Back in 2008 the Longhair and I sniffed a resurgence in Eastern Province Rugby - and often formed part of the Boet Erasmus / Telkom Park media crowd stomping on the sidelines or sitting up in the ether of the media box quietly hoping and praying that the stream of schoolboy players to other provinces would stop and the tide would turn in our favour. Pity we forgot that "Man does not live on Provincial Pride alone" - a little bit of bread with some stringy bits of meat is what keeps that tummy … [Read more...] about So are we going back to the days of the Boet?

Three Epic EP Kings Finals

10 October 2013 By Alan Straton

The Absa Currie Cup First Division Final between the Steval Pumas and EP Kings at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Friday is expected to culminate into a spectacle as the top two teams in the series battle it out for the trophy and the R1m winner's cheque after 15 weeks of physically taxing rugby. The teams met in the Final last year in Port Elizabeth, and with little separating them in terms of their quality of play, the Kings edged to a 26-25 victory. This year's Final, which will … [Read more...] about Three Epic EP Kings Finals

That Funny Game Called Rugby

24 April 2013 By Alan Straton

In Super Rugby the Southern Kings meet the Cheetahs this Saturday and predictions are for another loss and the continuation of the wooden spoon status for the Southern Kings amongst the South African sides participating. Whilst in the Vodacom Cup the EP Kings are most likely headed for honours in the South Section of the tournament as the Toyota Free State XV only stand a slim outside chance of beating the EP Kings to the quarter-finals. If the EP Kings, away to the Regent Boland Cavaliers, … [Read more...] about That Funny Game Called Rugby

Running Rugby wins the day for Eastern Province

11 July 2012 By Alan Straton

Ernst Stapelberg

In their second match of the tournament Eastern Province played against Boland in the Coca Cola Craven Week at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth today. The team will be satisfied with a second win in the competition as an interesting fact from the tournament is that each of the 22 players on each team has to get a chance to start, tactical replacements are not allowed, only injury replacements. Theoretically then the team with the greatest depth has the best chance at winning … [Read more...] about Running Rugby wins the day for Eastern Province
