SARS to apply normal tax rules to cryptocurrencies

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) will continue to apply normal income tax rules to cryptocurrencies, it said on Friday. The revenue service said it expects affected taxpayers to declare cryptocurrency gains or losses as part of their taxable income. “The onus is on taxpayers to declare all cryptocurrency-related taxable income in the tax year in which it is received or accrued. $10 Million in Bitcoin for Mandela’s Golden Hands

Gold castings of the hands of South Africa's first democratically elected President Nelson Mandela have been sold for $10m (£7m) in bitcoin. Canadian crypto-currency exchange firm Arbitrade bought four casts from South African businessman Malcolm Duncan. The firm said it planned to launch a global "Golden Hands of Nelson Mandela" tour to educate young people about the anti-apartheid icon's life.
