Suspects nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Steve Vukile Tshwete Police together with members of K9 Unit and Flying Squad arrested five males this morning at about 03:00 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Border Post outside King Williams Town.

The arrests come after police received valuable information from the community about a house that allegedly had firearms and were used for robberies that occurred in the area at the beginning of January 2016. Police followed up the information they received and went to separate houses at Border Post. Upon arrival they found males aged between 18 and 28 years. They searched both houses and found three rifles, Norinco and three hundred and sixty one (361) rounds of different ammunition. In another house they found Tik and an undisclosed amount of cash. These suspects are linked to robberies and murder that occurred in the area. Police confiscated the firearms, ammunition and Tik.

They are charged with dealing in drugs, armed robbery, murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The arrested suspects are expected to appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate court tomorrow.

The Cluster Commander of King Williams Town, Brigadier Henry Vos, thanked the community for sharing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects. He also encouraged the community members to report the criminals and criminal activities to the police on Crime Stop 08600 10111, Crime Line 32211 or the nearest police station.
