Dear MyPE
Two thumbs up to Ismail Lagardien’s Why should we revere the super-wealthy article (The Herald 2 June 2020) for its absolute objectivity.
Money, Status and/or Materialism worshippers, especially the typically shallow Gautengers, must have labelled him jealous, negative, suffer from an inferiority complex, toxic, mean-spirited, practising petty politics blah blah blah afterwards. I get that a lot when I tell money-worshippers that the likes of Kanye West, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, etc. had better leverage in being super-wealthy mainly because of the USA’s location, history & politics (protectionism). Race also plays a great role in being super-wealthy therein eg. Trevor Noah would most-probably not have fared better financially in the USA if not for his white father, neither Barack Obama with his white mother neither Beyonce Knowles with her white (or strongly seemingly so) mother.
Elon Musk was therefore head and shoulders among rivals in gaining an audience with venture capitalists long before opening his mouth due to his image.
In our lovely South Africa, the likes of Patrice Motsepe with his ANC anointing and white mother were somehow also leverage for super-wealth; qualifications aside. It is also in vogue to have a white spouse after being Anointed by the ANC so that South African White Capital could guarantee extra wealth as in the likes of Benni McCarthy, Tokyo Sexwale, JP Duminy, Siya Kolisi, Emo Adams etc.
So, before worshipping the wealthy or super-wealthy, the shallow worshippers should look deeper into their idols’ wealth reverence as Money, Status and/or Materialism have replaced the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in Christianity too.
