There is a heavy smoke cloud covering nearly the entire Summerstand area this afternoon.
This is as a result of a large bush fire behind the NMMU Campus, deep inside the Driftsand bushes. Fire Brigade vehicles are on the scene and the fire is under control. NMMU fire Marshals are also assisting to control the blaze.
There is no danger whatsoever for Summerstrand properties.
If you suffer from any lung illness, please stay indoors and close your windows.
