Sterkspruit Station Commander Brigadier Baninzi’s farewell function – SAPS Crime Report: 2021-11-25 19:40:15

STERKSPRUIT – The Bensonvale Hall at Sterkspruit were prepared and filled with such excitement as the station celebrated the promotion of their Station Commander Brig Baninzi who will leave for East London.

The farewell on 24 November 2021 was held for the honourable, respected and loved lady Brig Baninzi of Sterkspruit.

Her colleagues including personnel from the District and different stations in her Zone together with other departments and stakeholders came to join in the celebrations.

The programme director of the day was Me Qolo. Rev Juleka opened with a prayer and described Brig Baninzi as a very kind hearted person that participated in all Sterkspruit activities.

The Code of Conduct was read by W/O Phangwa and Capt Yawathe welcomed everyone present.

Cst Mbuli introduced the guests and W/O Phangwa explained the purpose of the day.

All the different stakeholders that worked closely with Brig Baninzi were afforded the opportunity to wish her well.

Mr Mere from the CPF thanked her for her good leadership and treating everyone equally and for the positive impact she had on their CPF.

It was clear through all other stakeholders inputs such as Gijima, the taxi association, SANDF, non-governmental organisations, Dept Of Health and the Traffic Department that Brig Baninzi will be greatly missed as she worked closely with each and every one.

The Mayor Honorable Mposelwa said that she felt fortunate to share this day with Brig Baninzi.

Brig had a very positive impact on the community of Sterkspruit and to work with her was a blessing. She also thanked the Brigadier for all the initiatives she made and the efforts in fighting gender-based violence and crime perpetrated against women and children.

Col Makeke from Mount Fletcher represented the acting District Commissioner Brig Adolph at the event.

Col Makeke shared the fact that Brig Baninzi was a pillar for the District and clearly a born leader.

She has the ability to be diplomatic, patriotic with some degree of being militaristic.

He also explained how important it is to have a purposeful life and that is how she walks through life.

He gave a background on the four kinds of people that you will always find in the working environment – wondering people, Spectators, the talkers that cannot implement what they say and the one’s that do not talk much but work hard.

He also mentioned how we can learn from the life of an eagle-

Eagles fly alone in high altitude, they can see their enemy as far as 5km away and is focused.

Eagles loves the storm they are not afraid of storms and even rest in the storm.

As leaders let us not be afraid to face the challenges at the work place let us adapt the mentality of an eagle.

Col Baninzi must fly high and reach new heights and may God bless her.

Mr Mathumbu from Community Safety was the quest speaker and congratulated Brig Baninzi and her family on her promotion.

Mr Mathumbu gave a background on the town of Sterkspruit and its dynamics in addressing crime. It is a Hotspot area and has its own challenges.

He first met Brig Baninzi during a programme at Hillside and could see that she was here to serve the community.

She had an integrated approach towards community policing and crime and a strong team that made her shine.

The community outside there need us as civil servants desperately.

It does not benefit you if you only have education.

It must be complimented by your attitude, your personality and the fact that you must be able to care about people.

She worked hard and will continue to do so.

She left a legacy behind and has a bright future before her and we wish her well.

She is a brave, courageous and passionate lady who always put people first.

Brig Baninzi responded by how overwhelmed she felt by this special occasion held in her honour.

She shared how the Code of Conduct shaped her as a person and she thanked all her seniors for paving the way forward for her.

She has been through a lot and has been ‘shaken’ many times but is still standing because of the support of her family and members.

You must first allow yourself to be transformed within you so you can be able to transform others if you leave people behind make sure they are at a better place than where you found them.

Senior officers must share their knowledge and experience with the junior members.

She also had an opportunity to visit Kenya as a GBV coordinator and sharing the concept of community policing in Soedan.

You need to do introspection before you judge other people.

You must conquer them, she is also a person that will always stand on her word and decisions.

She thanked everyone for their support to her and that they shared her vision on community policing. She will miss Sterkspruit and everyone dearly. She thanked them for the beautiful farewell function.

She greeted everyone in Kenya – ‘Sala Maliko’ —Peace be with you!

Gifts as well as a beautiful cake was presented to her.

Capt Dinga did the vote of thanks and Rev Damane closed the day reminding Brig Baninzi that she was a woman of nobal character and a God fearing woman she shared Jeremiah 29:11 with her.

The day was enjoyed by all present. ‘It was nice to be here!’
