You never know what an old family brooch or teapot might be worth, says Anton Welz of Stephan Welz & Company, whose auction house is sweeping the Eastern Cape with evaluations of furniture, art, jewellery, ceramics and silver.
Recently, a silver Chinese teapot valued at R800 to R1000, sold in the company’s Johannesburg auction for R50 000, surprising both auctioneer and seller.
