Stellenbosch MTB Rider Ike Klaassen Jumps On The Podium Again In The French Cup DH #2 – Les 2 Alpes
Les Deux Alps – The fastest DH riders on the planet once again congregated at the French national event to compete in one of the only scheduled race events on the calendar.
Extra attention was placed on this event after a strong show of athletes has found themselves in France to do battle during the event restrictions due to Covid-19.
In the 16-18-year-old category, young gun Ike Klaassen seized a strong 3rd place podium finish, proving his worth, as his first time on the circuit and one of the youngest riders in the field.
“It’s sick that we’re able to race,” said the excited Monster Energy rider Klaassen. “Most of the factory teams were there, so the level was super high. I’m hyped that I got third! It was probably the hardest track I’ve ever raced. It was so blown out and dusty, and every run the track was completely different. I was one second off first place, so the top three were all within a second. It’s just so good to be racing and able to keep our heads in the game. Hyped!”
Ike has been no stranger to the podium this year. “It was an insanely high level,” added Ike. “I’m super happy with a podium. I’m so hyped we can actually race these French cups. So that we can keep our level up and keep our heads in the game.”
With more DH events set to crop up in Europe, we’ve got our eyes peeled for the Monster Energy team and their continued successes.
Locally, Klaassen lives in Stellenbosch and has earned himself multiple Western Province Championships.
