As a keen yachtsman I have picked out some accommodation for the KKNK in Mount Noah Lodge which offers a one of a kind experience for guests, with air-conditioned accommodation in a choice of yachts all moored on dry land.

The KKNK continues to thrive and grow and recently issued a statement after the cancellation of the Aardklop Festival; “There are no plans to cancel the KKNK (Klein Karoo National Arts Festival). The mother of all Afrikaans arts festivals will undoubtedly take place in Oudtshoorn from 24 to 30 March this year and from 8 to 15 April next year,” said Rhodé Snyman, CEO of Kunste Onbeperk, organisers of the KKNK, after an announcement on Wednesday, 24 February that the Aardklop National Arts Festival has been cancelled.
“Although we are saddened by the news that Aardklop has been cancelled, we welcome the exploration by the Aardklop Foundation to find alternative ways to support the arts. We look forward to our continued involvement with them”, she says.
Snyman believes that greater synergy will play a significant role in ensuring the future of art projects. “The KKNK is involved with the Festival Forum, where we work with other South African producing arts festivals to extend our limited resources. We also support the National Department of Arts and Culture’s initiative for the establishment of a Cultural Observatory, to research the value of the creative industry. Through collaboration and the establishment of an industry databank, we can enhance and communicate the value of our work.”
Accommodation bookings for this year’s festival indicate that more people will visit Oudtshoorn per day, than in previous years. These bookings also illustrate that affordable accommodation is in high demand.
Snyman believes that service providers should take note of the challenging economic environment, especially regarding the price-sensitivity of festivalgoers. “Do not charge additional for accommodation, food and drinks.”
Every resident from the region has a role to play in the sustainability of the KKNK. “Be positive about the KKNK. Take the trouble to be involved: the offer is affordable and consists of a variety of productions to appeal to all tastes. Invite your friends and families to visit the KKNK and help us ensure that the festival takes place in Oudtshoorn for many years to come.”
