Statement of The Minister of Public Service and Administration, Adv. Ngoako Ramatlhodi, Regarding The Police Shooting in Lenasia

13 December 2016 By Port Elizabethan

Statement of The Minister of Public Service and Administration, Adv. Ngoako Ramatlhodi, Regarding The Police Shooting in Lenasia:

The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi, is deeply concerned about the reported shooting of innocent civilians and members of the community in Lenasia. The reports point to the fact that Ms Retha Pillay was returning home from buying a dinner meal when the shooting happened.

“We are saddened by the fact that an episode also ended a life of a mother and nearly her daughter too. The daughter, Deshnika Pillay, was wounded in the encounter. This is deeply regrettable” said Minister Ramatlhodi.

Minister Ramatlhodi also wants to take the opportunity to congratulate the MEC of Community Safety Ms Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, for her prompt intervention in the matter.

“She represents the true spirit of uBuntu and of course, the ethos of Batho Pele that we in the Public Service and Administration have been calling on our public servants to live up to”. Minister said.

Accordingly, the Minister trust that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will look into this matter and ensure that justice is restored to the family of Pillay.

The Minister has expressed his condolences to the Pillay family on the loss of their mother and also wish her daughter, Deshnika Pillay, a speedy recovery.
