Globally automotive supplier Continental plan to hire 1500 new employees this year. “This year we plan to hire around 1 500 university graduates and young professionals worldwide,” reported Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Continental’s Executive Board member for Human Resources in Hannover.
Management Development Specialist at Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA), Pamela de Wit, says, “Between 20 and 25 graduates and in-service trainees, within various disciplines are recruited by CTSA each year.
An intense twelve month graduate programme is designed to equip the graduate with the necessary leadership skills through personal development and on-the-job training. The tyre firm is proud to announce that four of these learners have been nominated for specific International assignments.
The firm continues to embark on initiatives that result in job creation, including supporting and attending the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Engineering School Initiative as part of a career development initiative. This initiative has a specific focus on Grade 12 learners with the intention to uplift mathematics and science, exposing the learners to engineering, technology and to the automotive industry.
CTSA also partners with the NMMU in Port Elizabeth relative to projects. Apart from building long-term relationships between higher education and business, the firm’s motive is to scout for talent within various disciplines.
The success of our programme is attributable to the standard of graduates from the NMMU. The graduates show motivation, technical and functional abilities together with their willingness to learn and develop new skills. The support from knowledgeable experts and committed mentors, a structured mentorship programme, and support from senior management at CTSA is also essential for the programme’s success,” De Wit notes.
The international automotive supplier also recruits primarily engineering and natural science majors but also graduates in business and economics.
“As international automotive supplier, Continental relies on qualified employees who want to help shape the individual and sustainable mobility of the future. In addition to attractive tasks with international perspectives, flat hierarchical structures and individual opportunities for further development, Continental offers a variety of technologies and chances for natural scientists, engineers, business administrators and professionals from entirely different fields,” Wente stressed.
Worldwide, Continental employs roughly 30,000 engineers in the areas of production and research & development. Of the close to 1 500 new hirings worldwide, approximately 1 200 will be from the engineering area and 300 from the commercial area.
