Solid Warriors Win

15 October 2023 By Alan Straton

The dafabet Warriors hosted the AET Tuskers at St Georges Park, Gqeberha on Sunday 15 October in a CSA One Day match.

After winning the toss the Warriors sent the Tuskers in to bat.

Some close fielding and tight bowling saw the Warriors confine the Tuskers top order to a very low score leaving the Tuskers middle order – Erlank (21), Nipper (28) and Mhletywa (35) to steady the ship.

Mhletywa, with a highest Tusker score of 39 pulled gallant tail enders Nipper (28), Dudgeon (0), Nhlebela (2), Mhletywa (39) and Budaza (1) along for the ride before being caught by Kruger off the bowling of Mothoa in the 35th over.

Tuskers all out for 130 after 34.2 overs.

Tuskers batting (130/10): Ridgard (8), Delport (4), Rapulana (9), Koekemoer (4), Nofal (3), Erlank (21), Nipper (28), Dudgeon (0), Nhlebela (2), Mhletywa (39), Budaza (1) Extras (11)

Warriors bowling: Swanepeol (18/3) Meyer (19/0), Kruger (4/0), van Heerden (37/5), Mothoa (22/2), Stubbs (30/0)

Warriors opening batsmen – Hermann and King – were virtually unstoppable as they reached half the runs required for a win an in the 13th over and posted an opening partnership of 71 before Hermann (39) was caught behind by Erlank off the bowling of Nipper at the start of the 16th over.

The 100 up for the Warriors came after 80 minutes off of the 1st ball of the 21st over with Qeshile and King at the crease.

Shortly thereafter King reached his 50 after 83 minutes at the crease and after facing 57 balls with 2 x fours and 3 x sixes.

Qeshile’s (17) wicket was the second Warriors wicket to fall after 27 minutes, 26 balls and 2 fours paving the way for the Warriors Captain, Mathew Breetzke to spend a short ceremonious time at the wicket as King despatched the Tuskers with sixes and fours to take the dafabet Warriors to an 8 wicket win in the 25th over.

The CSA One Day cup Man of the Match Nealan van Geerden for his bowling figures of 5/37 in 8 overs.
