The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), Public Relations Department is hosting their third annual student conference themed ‘Social Media Take Over?’ on Thursday, 29 September 2011 from 08:30 – 15:30. The conference will take place at NMMU North Campus Conference Centre, Summerstrand.
The purpose of this theme is to engage with researchers, professionals and students on the emerging social media trends.
The Public Relations Student Conference (PRSC) started in 2009 by the NMMU Public Relations Department with the objective to bridge the gap between theory and practise for the students. It also serves as a networking platform for upcoming professionals.
“This year’s student conference proves to be an interesting and exciting one, considering this current and relevant theme,” Noloyiso Stokwe, student intern.
The conference is not limited to NMMU staff and students only, but to other tertiary institutions around Nelson Mandela Bay. The invitation to the conference is also extended to researchers, lecturers and professionals from all disciplines who are interested in social media.
Our four keynote speakers include Michelle Brown, former Businesswomen’s Association Chairperson and Public Relations guru; Elizabeth Fourie, Public Relations and Communications Strategist at Boomtown Strategic Brand Agency; Bianca Wright, Head of Department of Journalism, Media and Philosophy at NMMU; Adelina Mbinjama, Public Relations and Communication Science lecturer currently completing her doctorate in new media.
The event will also serves as a platform for open discussions on the topic allowing for social media engagement.
