The Humewood Golf Club will again throw its weight behind a worthy cause when it stages its annual Charity Pro-Am tournament in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, 15 September.
With continued support from SG Mobility, the club will host PGA club professionals from as far afield as Cape Town, who will be relishing the prospect of testing themselves on the only true links course in Africa.
Defending champion Sieg Human will be back to defend his title, but can expect a serious challenge from his fellow pros.
The format for the team event is an alliance, with two scores to count, while the PGA professionals will play for a separate individual prize.
Humewood club manager Brendon Timm, himself a PGA pro, said they were looking forward to holding the event, which has been aimed at supporting charities in Nelson Mandela Bay. This year’s beneficiary is Forever Family Homes.
“Forever Family Homes is a network of private families providing temporary safe care for babies in crisis, as well as long term and permanent care for children who cannot be adopted or reunited with family,” he said.
“They have been serving babies in our city for 12 years and have seen more than 80 little ones come through their homes. Currently there are six families raising 37 children.
“The organization also has baby safe houses in Walmer and in Arcadia that provide desperate moms with a better option for their babies’ future.”
“You will find the organization at https://www.facebook.com/foreverfamilyhomes/.”
Timm acknowledged the role played by SG Mobility, a business unit of supply chain management company Super Group.
“Without the backing of our sponsors, these sorts of events would not be possible and we are extremely grateful to SG Mobility for their willingness to support this cause,” he said.
“Super Group is a leading logistics and mobility group providing end-to-end supply chain solutions, fleet management and dealership services to a diversified global customer base.
“In conjunction with its subsidiaries, MDS and VSC Solutions, SG Mobility has a significant national infrastructure, spanning express domestic and international courier, specialist break-bulk transportation, warehousing and diversified logistics, all underpinned by innovative and novel information technology systems.”
