During Tuesday 28 December 2021 at about 22:00, members at Heidedal SAPS Community Service Centre received a complaint from Harde Single in Bloemside Phase 1 just outside Bloemfontein. Three officials attended to the complaint including the 52-year-old Warrant Officer who was also the Relief Commander.
On arrival at the scene, they found a middle aged male who had been stabbed allegedly by his nephew who also broke the uncle’s house windows and then ran away. The police called an ambulance and at the same time received information that the suspect was causing problems at his home.
The two members left to attend to the reported incident and the 52-year-old Warrant Officer stayed behind with the injured uncle to the suspect. After a while, they returned only to find that the suspect had stabbed the Warrant Officer and the knife was stuck on his back. Both victims were rushed to Pelonomi Netcare Trauma Unit where the Warrant Officer was operated on to remove the knife.
Reinforcement was called and the team searched for the suspect. The 17-year-old male was arrested and two separate cases; one of Attempted murder – attack on police whilst on duty and the other of Assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm as well as malicious damage to property were opened.
The suspect was detained and he will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate court on Thursday 30 December 2021.
