See top equestrian athletes in action at PERC

Equestrian riders and show jumpers are galloping into the Bay this week for the 2013 Nissan World Cup Qualifier from 14 to 17 November at the Port Elizabeth Riding Club in Lorraine Port Elizabeth.

Top national riders – and the ever present local talent – are set to wow spectators in what organisers promise is going to be a magnificent showcase of equestrian skill, complimentary entertainment and action.

“The Nissan World Cup Qualifier 2013 has become a premier event on the equestrian calendar,” event organiser Tanja Radke said.

Radke said that this is an ideal opportunity for the public to watch the top equestrian athletes in action as they vie for a qualifying position. Competitors are not limited to the greater Nelson Mandela Bay area and top riders from Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and the Western Cape are participating in the event.

Although show jumping and competing will be the main attraction, the Nissan World Cup Qualifier 2013 organisers have put in place an action-packed family-orientated programme for the weekend coming. A dedicated kiddie’s play area with arts & craft workshops, jumping castles, miniature trains, face painting and lots more will keep the youngsters busy on Saturday and Sunday. Radke said that the play area will operate from 9am till 4pm and that the kiddies would be able play to their hearts content at no charge whatsoever.

An exciting addition to Saturday afternoon’s programme is the exhilarating new Nissan 6 Bar competition with a R15 000 “winner takes it all” prize money sponsored by Nissan. “This is pure horsepower at its best as the aim is to see who can jump highest and still remain clear” Radke commented. Horse and riders will pull out all the stops to better the current record of 2 metres within the allocated 5 rounds. The competition is open to competitors only and horses must be part of the 1.20m class or over. Radke said that as this is a charity event, riders enter at a nominal fee of R100 and if they are disqualified within the first two rounds they may pay R500 to buy back into the event.

Rocking Stuart Reece Band will perform at a special fund raising event that is taking place on Friday night and the tickets can be obtained by contacting the PE Riding club on 041-3674220

Over 170 horses have entered the event, which features show jumping in the main arena from 08h30 to 04h30 each day and other attractions including a variety of stalls, a kids’ supervised play area, as well as a Nissan vehicle display and test drive station (operational Saturday and Sunday), The Nissan World Cup Qualifier is geared for success.
