SA’s top triathletes heading for St Francis

The final round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series takes place this Saturday morning at Port St Francis and some of SA’s top young talent will be in action together with hundreds of social wanna be triathletes.

The 4th round of the Series, which is currently being led by 18 year old Keegan Cooke and 8 times Series champion Liza Kingston (both from Port Elizabeth), is anticipated to draw over 200 participants with most taking part in the team relay category with all the action starting at 8.30am from Port St Francis.

“Always the highlight of the Series, the Port St Francis triathlon will see defending champion and SA Triathlete Clinton Gravett taking part together with Youth Olympic triathlete Nathan Le Roux and SA Long distance Tri champ, Gerhard De Bruin,” said Series director Mike Zoetmulder of Zsports Events NPC. “Saturday’s triathlon is going to be a great opportunity for the up and rising Port Elizabeth stars like Cooke and Merrick Fairall to gauge their progress.”

This annual Boxing Day triathlon is a sprint distance triathlon starting and finishing at the harbour and comprises of a 750m swim (two laps around the Port), 20km cycle (Port to Cape St Francis and back) and 5km run (Port to airport and back) which sees many social team entries from the local holiday makers keen to burn off some extra calories from Christmas Day.

The race will be followed by the Series prize giving ceremony with R5,500 up for grabs as well as many lucky draw prizes including R1000 in Caltex fuel vouchers, Nutritech hampers, News Cafe hampers and more. Late entries will be accepted on the morning at registration which is at the top of the Port Car Park just outside the transition area. Registration opens from 7am and the race starts at 8.30am.
